Helping students make the transition from their current operating system (Windows 10 a priori) to Linux Mint

With the help of the SEGI Student Helpdesk, install a new operating system - one that's attractive, intuitive, fluid and fast - on your PC to give it a second lease of life! This free service will help you extend the life of your machine (and save you a lot of money in the process)!
Why switch to Mint?
- Cost savings: installing Linux Mint will extend the life of your computer, and so delay the need to buy a new machine. Which will save you a hell of a lot of money.
- It's not difficult at all! Gone are the days when Linux meant "writing code": Mint works just as well as Windows or MacOS, with a sober, aesthetically pleasing graphical interface! In our experience, novices get by without any significant problems (no more so than with other OSes, and anyway, we're here for you! Contact the Student Helpdesk).
- Improved machine performance: your computer will be faster and more reliable, giving it a new lease of life.
- Security: you won't need to pay for licenses, and your PC will be less exposed to viruses and malware, which are rare on Linux (secret services and professionals use Linux for a reason...).
- Ecological impact: the manufacture of a computer has a major ecological cost. Extending the life of your PC and delaying the purchase of a new model will therefore greatly reduce your ecological impact.
How do I install Mint and its applications?
There are two possibilities:
- (The simplest) You can make an appointment via SAM ticket with the Student Helpdesk and they will take care of the installation on your PC.

À qui s’adresse ce projet ?
Ce projet est destiné à tous les étudiants souhaitant optimiser l’utilisation de leur ordinateur :
- Ceux dont l'ordinateur ne peut pas passer à Windows 11, mais qui souhaitent prolonger la durée de vie de leur appareil.
- Ceux qui trouvent leur PC trop lent. Linux Mint est plus léger et permet d’augmenter la vitesse des ordinateurs moins performants.
- Tous les étudiants intéressés ou curieux d’utiliser un système d’exploitation « Open Source ».
Pourquoi passer à Linux Mint ?
À partir du 14 octobre 2025, les mises à jour de Windows 10 ne seront plus disponibles.
Malheureusement, si votre ordinateur ne dispose pas d’un processeur suffisamment puissant, la mise à jour vers Windows 11 sera impossible (voir ci-dessous la configuration minimale requise pour Windows 11). Cet arrêt forcé de Windows 10 peut entraîner des conséquences économiques et écologiques, car les ordinateurs ne répondant pas aux exigences de Windows 11 risquent d’être remplacés. Pourtant, vos besoins restent les mêmes : accéder à du matériel informatique performant et abordable pour vos études.
Configuration minimale requise pour passer à Windows 11
- Processeur : 1 gigahertz (GHz) ou plus avec deux cœurs ou plus sur un processeur 64 bits compatible ou un système sur une puce (SoC).
- Mémoire : 4 gigaoctets (Go) ou plus.
- Stockage : 64 Go ou plus d’espace disque disponible.
- Carte graphique : Compatible avec DirectX 12 ou version ultérieure, avec un pilote WDDM 2.0.
- Microprogramme système : UEFI, compatible démarrage sécurisé.
- TPM : module de plateforme sécurisée (TPM) version 2.0.
