How does ULiège detect plagiarism ?

A plagiarism checker software program is available to all supervisors at ULiège, enabling them to closely examine students' work (reports, dissertations, theses, etc.). When a teacher runs a document through the plagiarism checker software, they obtain a percentage of elements that have been copied from various original documents.

In the example below, the student "borrowed":

• 32 % from a document found by the software on the astrofiles website
• 27 % from a document found by the software in abstracts on the publlications.csail.mit.edu website
• 4 % from a document found by the software in dspace.mit.edu/bitstream
• 2 % from a document found by the software in fedetd.mis.nsysu.edu.tw

In total, 67 % of the work was found to be borrowed from other authors who weren't cited according to the rules.
