Efficiently organize the end of the year

To help you get organized in this final stretch, take stock of each of your courses (e.g., using the "My courses" chart tool: .pdf or .docx). 

Keep up to date with the information provided by your faculty and/or teachers about the May-June session, by regularly checking the various official channels available: instructions given during a lesson, via e-mail, on eCampus or MyULiège, or even in teaching commitments..

You should specify or confirm theexamination timetable, the assessment methods (the type of examination and questions envisaged) and how each test will be taken (open/closed books, etc.). 

As the weeks go by, make sure you maintain a suitable diurnal rhythm that will enable you to make progress in your work without arriving exhausted at the blockade and the session! 

To help you get to work more easily and make the most of the time you have left before exams:

• break down your work into small, realistic tasks, determining what you want to achieve by the end of each study session;
• take a moment to visualize the benefits of accomplishing each task, but also the process of getting there: imagine the steps you will go through to reach your goal;
• eliminate distractions by removing anything that might distract you from your goal (noise, social networks, television...);
• give yourself a reward after achieving one of your goals (a "relaxation" break, a favorite snack, a few minutes on your phone...);
• get to work almost immediately after settling down at your desk (by opening your syllabus/document, starting an exercise...) to build momentum towards more sustained efforts.

Depending on how much time you have left, and to make sure you remain realistic, you may need to prioritize your work! 

To avoid having to organize yourself "day by day" at the end of the term, and to keep an eye on the progress of your work, plan your work concretely for the weeks ahead, including during the blockade and the session (for example, with the help of the table-tool "My end of Q2 and session planning": .pdf or .docx).

To do this, there are four essential steps: (1) take stock of your courses, (2) assess the time available, (3) allocate time according to courses, (4) concretize your program (and adjust it if necessary).

Having the right conditions in which to prepare for your exams helps to improve concentration and efficiency. Choosing the right working environment is therefore essential! 

Choose a suitable location (i.e. one that's pleasant, well-lit, free from noise and other distractors...), where you can create a functional and comfortable space for yourself.

Choose a place "dedicated to work" so that your brain associates this space with your study objectives, and you can carry them out in a productive frame of mind.

Perfectionism is "the tendency to want to do everything with an exaggerated concern for perfection" *. 

Working on your lessons should enable you to understand the material in depth and structure it, but :

• Youdon't need to have "impeccably" formatted revision aids : it's not the "look" of these tools that's your priority! Make sure that they are clear, readable, useful, practical, complete and adapted to each course, adding or correcting them as necessary, without rewriting, starting over or copying them.
• Mastering a subject does not mean acquiring total expertise in its content. Rather, your work should aim to :

1. know the essential elements of the subject in depth, so you understand them and are able to re-explain them "in your own words", using domain-specific vocabulary,

2. to have an overview of the course and determine its main themes, so as to be able to use it, apply it, identify links..

It is sometimes necessary to supplement certain parts of the course with additional material(in the event of comprehension difficulties or according to precise instructions given by the teacher). Be careful, however, not to systematically supplement your lessons with personal research: it will then be difficult to distinguish between the expected elements and additions of all kinds!
