Laughter, a pleasure not to be neglected!
Physiologically, laughter causes contractions and relaxations of the diaphragm, like gymnastics or an internal massage. It also lowers muscle tone, reducing muscular tension and bringing about a certain degree of relaxation.
From a psychological point of view, laughter and humor are ways of coping with stress, of deflecting psychological suffering to protect oneself, a kind of healthy escape reflex. It's a way of taking a step back from life's problems, seeing things in a different light, which increases our sense of control. Humor gives a lighter, less anxious view of events. The relaxing effect can last a long time after intense laughter.
