Excesses of the vitamins B and C are rapidly eliminated in the urine. There is therefore little risk of toxicity. Group A-D-E-K vitamins, on the other hand, are stored in fatty tissue, where they accumulate.Toxic doses can then bereached, especially with vitamins A and D.

Hypervitaminosis A leads to skin problems, increased intracranial pressure, oedema, liver disorders and even hepatitis. Even more seriously, excess vitamin A in women in early pregnancy can cause severe malformations of the embryo. Women must therefore absolutely avoid taking vitamin A-based medications or consuming foods rich in this vitamin (liver) at least in the 3 months before and after conception.

You should also be aware that some dermatological drugs, including those frequently used to treat acne, are synthetic derivatives of vitamin A, and should therefore also be avoided during pregnancy.

Vitamin D intoxication causes gastrointestinal disorders, constipation, stupor, nausea and tissue calcification. An intake of vitamins is not always safe.
