10 reasons to go smoke-free

In 2006, a partnership of national and European public health research organizations published a report on the harmful effects of tobacco ("Lifting the Smokescreen: 10 reasons to go smoke-free").

We have extracted a brief summary in the form of 10 reasons (why it's important to avoid tobacco smoke), which we reproduce below.

Dispelling the smokescreen: 10 reasons to go smoke-free

  1. Passive smoking kills and damages health.
  2. Every worker has the right to be protected from exposure to tobacco smoke.
  3. Scientific evidence shows that ventilation does not protect against exposure to tobacco smoke.
  4. Anti-smoking laws have no negative economic impact.

  6. Public opinion is in favor of anti-smoking legislation.
  7. The public respects anti-smoking regulations.
  8. These provisions have been applied elsewhere. So they can be applied anywhere.
