Duration of work sessions

Temps When you're blocked, it's important to plan a few breaks lasting at least an hour, often around meals. This allows you to eat, but also to rest and have a real activity (for example, going swimming...). You'll also need to plan more regular short breaks, but beware of short breaks that last! Work sessions often vary between 2 and 4-5 hours, depending on the time of day. No-one can stay focused for that long without experiencing moments of disconnection, of weariness... It's very useful to plan short breaks (between 5 and 15 minutes) to momentarily release tension (and attention), in order to get the machine moving again.

In a 24-hour day, subtract the amount of sleep you need (e.g. 8 or 9 hours). Subtract two or three important breaks during the day, around meals for example (around 5 or 6 hours), and the sum of short breaks you allow yourself during your work sessions (1 or 2 hours).
Do the math and you'll come up with a range of between 7 and 10 hours that you can devote to personal work: that's plenty of time to work hard while maintaining the balance you need to see the session through to the end.
