regularity
One or two glasses on occasion (Quantity - regularity)
In our society, alcohol is consumed by almost the entire adult population, which is not necessarily problematic in itself: as long as its use remains moderate, recreational, gustatory or convivial, it does not usually present too many risks.
However, underneath its everyday aspect, alcohol is a substance that acts on the brain, disrupts its functioning, can lead to strong physical and psychological dependence, and can be excessively dangerous when abused...
Beyond the product itself, the harmfulness of alcohol lies particularly in the way it is used. It is very difficult for a consumer to clearly identify the boundary between safe and abusive use. Indeed, we often tend to associate alcohol abuse withdrunkenness or dependence ; but consumption can be problematic long before that!
Excessive drinking occurs when a person consumes more alcohol than their liver is able to assimilate, whether in several regular intakes or in a single intake (with or without dependence, with or without drunkenness, with or without visible consequences). According to health professionals, the generally accepted limit is 3 glasses a day for men and 2 for women. On any one occasion, this limit can be as high as 4 drinks, but no more than twice a month. The risks appear as soon as these limits are exceeded, and the more you exceed them, the greater the risks.
