1. Who are the contact persons for mobility projects?

To begin with, you should contact the Erasmus coordinators at. They are in charge of allocating destinations, selecting applications, etc. They can help you set up your mobility project.

Faculty coordinators will help you with the academic aspects of your stay.

2. Can I take part in a mobility program abroad?

Before you consider going abroad, contact your faculty coordinators to find out when, for how long and where you can go. Any mobility must first be approved by the faculty.

Find out what options are available to you. Mobility periods and durations vary according to course/faculty.

4. I'd like to go away several times during my course. Is this possible?

It's perfectly possible to take part in several mobility programs during your studies.

For example:

  • a study stay + an internship
  • two study stays + one internship
  • two courses..

However, please check with your faculty coordinator that this is permitted at your faculty. All mobility must first be approved by the faculty.

Grants are available to students who have been selected for a study visit or internship within the announced deadlines, subject to the availability of European funds. In the event that the budget received does not allow for the financing of all stays, a selection procedure will be set up by the file manager. Details of this procedure will be sent by email if necessary.

5. What are the eligibility conditions?

To take part in an exchange program and be exempt from paying tuition fees at the host institution, students must be regularly enrolled as full-time students at the Université de Liège and have paid the tuition fees. To find out more, visit eligibility conditions.

6. Can I choose the country and/or university where I want to study?

For a study stay:

Each faculty has a number of bilateral agreements with universities around the world. These agreements have been signed to offer students a wide range of destinations. You will find the list of partner universities worldwide on this page. Destinations are listed by faculty, so please filter your search.

You can also contact your faculty coordinator for more information and to find out about any selection requirements.An agreement must be in place before mobility can take place. Students must also be selected by the faculty before applying to a partner university.

For an internship:

Some faculties offer internship destinations abroad. However, any other location can be proposed by the student. Internships can be at partner universities, companies, training centers, embassies, consulates, etc.

7. My faculty/department doesn't offer mobility/study/internship stays. How can I go?

All ULiège faculties offer a mobility program, which can take the form of a study stay or an internship. Your faculty coordinator will be able to tell you what your faculty offers.

8. How do I find an internship?

9. I have an internship planned as part of my course, and I'd like to do it abroad. Is this possible? Can I get a scholarship?

It is perfectly possible to complete your internship abroad and receive a mobility grant. Contact your faculty coordinator to obtain your faculty's agreement, and then follow the registration procedure to register your application within the announced deadlines.

However, if your internship is paid, the Erasmus grant will be reduced.

Yes, you can be paid for your internship and receive a mobility grant.

11. I'm not a Belgian citizen, can I still do a mobility program during my studies at ULiège?

Yes, no problem. Your nationality doesn't affect your plans.

To take part in an exchange program, you must be regularly enrolled as a full-time student at the Université de Liège and have paid the registration fee.

iconeAttention Contact the embassy of the country in which you wish to study to check that you can obtain a visa if necessary. Be careful, too, if you have dual nationality.

12. I've been selected by my faculty. How do I register my mobility request?

We invite you to follow the registration procedure and to register on time.

You will need to enter your mobility request in myULiège. It must then be validated by your Erasmus coordinator. It is during this online registration that you will have the opportunity to apply for your mobility grant.

13. I'm registered as an OUT student with myULiège. Do I also need to complete the registration procedures required by my partner?

Yes, to register your mobility request, you need to contact ULiège AND your host university.

You'll need to obtain all the information and complete all the formalities required by your partner university. Consult the international relations website of your host university for more information.

14. My host university is charging me registration fees. Is this normal?

Some students are required to pay fees at their host institution (insurance in Portugal, access to public transport in Germany, etc.). The Commission considers these fees to be "small fees".

The Agency Guide states that: "The host institution does not charge academic fees (whether for courses, registration, participation in examinations, access to laboratories and libraries, etc.) for participation in the agreed study program. However, minor expenses such as insurance, student club membership and the use of various materials such as photocopies, laboratory supplies, etc. may be charged in the same way as for local students. Students will be informed that they continue to pay normal tuition fees to their home institution during their stay abroad."

15. My host university is asking me for an official appointment. What is the procedure?

Faculty coordinators nominate students to partner universities.

If your host university requests this nomination, please contact your faculty coordinator so that he/she can nominate you as requested and/or provide you with information.

17. How much are mobility grants?

The grant amounts available are defined by the European Union or the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. These amounts are subject to change each year and vary according to the student's status, type of mobility, destination and length of stay. 18. I don't have a grant from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Will I be entitled to a mobility grant?

Yes, students eligible for a mobility stay have access to a mobility grant. Grant amounts vary according to student status, but all students are eligible for financial aid.

19. How do I apply for a mobility grant?

Scholarships are awarded automatically when students register via myULiège(). If the student does not wish to benefit from this financial aid, he/she should send an e-mail to .

Scholarships are paid only to bank accounts with European IBAN.

20. What does the mobility grant cover and how is it calculated?

The scholarship is calculated on the basis of the host school's academic calendar / internship period, i.e. the first day of compulsory attendance (welcome day, preparatory classes or first day of classes / internship...) and last day of compulsory attendance (last exam of first session / last day of internship).

If you are taking part in a welcome session, language course or preparatory course at your host university, be sure to include this date on your "attestation de séjour".

21. I don't have a European bank account. Is that a problem?

Scholarships are only paid into European bank accounts. If you don't have a European account, the best solution is to open a Belgian bank account. If you don't have this option, you can provide the account number of a trusted person (who has a Belgian or European account) who will be responsible for receiving the grant and paying it into your personal account.

This type of mobility is not financed by a grant. The internship must be part of the curriculum to qualify for funding.

Mobility grants are intended for students taking part in an exchange program. They are not intended to finance regular enrolment.

Get in touch with the university you'd like to attend to find out about any scholarship offers and, above all, their admission requirements.

30. I forgot to register by the deadline. What can I do?

Unfortunately, late entries will not be considered. Please take note!

Please contact your faculty coordinator as soon as possible to find out whether mobility can be arranged at a different time (e.g. in the2nd quarter instead of the1st).

31. If I have a second session the year before my mobility, will my stay be affected?

Contact your faculty coordinator who will be able to give you the eligibility criteria for your faculty. If you are going to a destination outside the EU, find out more about it, as the academic year starts earlier than in most European countries. Make your own arrangements in coordination with your coordinators and your host university.

32. I haven't earned all my credits. Will my stay be affected?

Depending on your faculty, the rules concerning residual credits may vary. It is essential to contact your faculty coordinator , who will analyze your file and advise you whether you should give up your stay or whether an adaptation can be made.

33. I need language preparation. What help does ULiège offer?

If you are going to the European Union, outside the EU, on an internship or for a study stay, you will receive access to the European Commission's online learning module (Online Linguistic Support - OLS).

Vous pouvez également vous adresser à l’ISLV qui offre différentes possibilités aux étudiants de l’ULiège.

Host universities sometimes offer intensive language courses for mobile students. You can also get in touch with ISLV, which offers various possibilities for ULiège students. If you choose to take part, be sure to indicate this on your arrival certificate and inform your file manager, as this course period may be covered by your mobility grant.

34. I'm going on an Erasmus Belgica program and I haven't received access to the language evaluation. Is this normal?

Language assessment is not required for Erasmus Belgica stays.

35. I've received an invitation to take the language test. Is this compulsory?

Yes, language assessment is compulsory for Erasmus stays in and outside Europe. This compulsory evaluation must be carried out before andafter the stay.

36. What is a mobility contract?

Each mobile student will receive a mobility contract setting out his or her rights and duties as an exchange student.

The detailed amount and terms of payment of the grant will be shown on this document.

Mobility contracts are sent to students as soon as we receive their complete application. For this, the mobile student must :

  • be registered at ULiège for the academic year of the mobility,
  • have sent your insurance documents to your file manager,
  • have a Learning Agreement validated by the 3 parties (himself, his ULiège coordinator, his coordinator at the host university/organization).

37. When will I receive my mobility contract?

Mobility contracts are sent to students as soon as we receive their complete application. For this, the mobile student must :

  • be registered at ULiège for the academic year of the mobility,
  • have sent your insurance documents,
  • have a Learning Agreement validated by the 3 parties (himself, his ULiège coordinator, his coordinator at the host university/organization).

38. When will I receive my scholarship?  

The scholarship is paid in 2 instalments: 70% on arrival (after sending IR the contract and proof of arrival) and the balance on return (after sending IR the reports and proof of stay).

Any delay in sending your documents will result in a delay in the payment of your scholarship.

39. I know someone who left before or at the same time as me and who received his grant before I did. Is this normal?

We invite you to check that your file is in order (see questions 37 and 38):

  • If not, get your house in order right away.
  • If so, please contact your contact person at the ULiège international relations department.

The L.A. for study stays must be entered in myULiège. Please refer to for help and contact your faculty coordinator.

41. How do I go about finding accommodation abroad?

Your host university probably has a housing service or university residence. Don't hesitate to contact your host university's International Relations department or housing service to find out more.

We also invite you to get in touch with students who have previously moved to the same place as you. You'll find their contact details in the reports available at the IR office in Place du 20-Août or at .

There are a number of solutions, so find out about them in advance and opt for the one that suits you best, depending on your expectations, budget, ..

42. Do I need a visa for my trip abroad?

For this aspect of your stay, please contact the embassy or consulate of the country you are visiting.

Students of non-Belgian nationality can also consult the foreign affairs website of their country of origin.

43. The mutual insurance company is asking me for a certificate of residence. How can I obtain one?

The attestation of stay will be sent automatically by International Relations in the month following the closing date of the registration period. You will receive this certificate by post to the address you have entered in myULiège.

44. I need an attestation of residence for my visa application. How can I get one?

The "attestation de séjour" will be sent to you automatically by International Relations in the month following the closing date of the registration period. You will receive this document by post.

This attestation can also be useful if there are elections organized in Belgium during your mobility.

45. What documents do I need to send to the International Relations Department to prove that I am properly insured?

The documents you need to provide are different if you are staying in Europe or outside Europe. Your contact person in ULiège's international relations department will remind you of this, but if you would like to find out more, please consult the page dedicated to insurance.

46. I'm going on a study or internship trip. Am I covered by ULiège insurance?

Covered are regularly enrolled students and all persons assimilated to students by virtue of the fact that they are duly authorized by the authorities to use university premises for study, research, scientific work, etc.

Yes, you must send a copy of this document. This is a requirement of your scholarship.

Before returning to Belgium, discuss this with your host university and contact your faculty coordinator. There are several possible solutions.

49. How is my stay recognized? Do I need to submit a document? Will my notes be converted?

You will receive a transcript to send to your faculty coordinator. Contact him/her with any questions you may have about the academic recognition of your stay and the conversion of your grades.

Before leaving your host university, check how your results will be transmitted and to whom.

50. I'd like to cancel my stay. What's the procedure?

You must notify your Erasmus coordinator, the host university/internship location and your IR contact. An e-mail is sufficient.

If this cancellation occurs before your departure, the procedure will stop immediately. 

If this cancellation occurs after your departure, we invite you to read your mobility contract carefully, and specifically the point relating to the financial aspects of your stay.
